Abstract
Squamous cell carcinoma (SCC) of the external auditory canal is uncommon malignancy with an annual incidence of one per one million inhabitants. Common tumor progression site are periauricular soft tissues, the parotid gland, temporomandibular joint and mastoid. SCC of the external auditory canal is an aggressive disease with the prognosis dependent on the stage of disease and the primary treatment. Early signs of this disease are ear pain and discharge. The treatment of choice is aggressive surgery with postoperative radiation. A 73-year-old woman with the left ear discharge and mass lesion visited our outpatient clinic. A 1 cm diameter mass was observed at the entrance of the left external auditory canal. Biopsy revealed a squamous cell carcinoma. We performed total auriculectomy, subtotal petrosectomy and superficial parotidectomy. We reviewed this case with reference to relevant publications in the medical literature.
